As a teenager, I visited the beautiful town of St Lucia, located in the northern KwaZulu Natal province of South Africa. St Lucia is situated inside the first South African world heritage site called Isimangaliso wetland park (a place of wonder) and it's surrounded by wildlife, lake St Lucia, the Indian ocean and nature.
After falling in love with the area I decided to look for work there. St Lucia's peaceful nature and my love for nature made it the perfect place for me to live.
My First Steps
In 2005 I started working as a waiter with a seafood restaurant called Ocean Basket. Because I love meeting and interacting with people, customers would often ask me about the surrounding areas and about things to do.
As a result, I started offering to guide them around St Lucia and the Hluhluwe or Imfolozi game reserves for free. I loved this work so much that I enrolled and graduated from Nature and Field guiding course through Fgassa and Cathsseta.
After years of guiding tours for fun, I was finally able to start making a living from my passion!
Getting my chance
In 2015 I started a small tourism business targeting self-drive tourists to guide them around St Lucia, and it's nearby Game reserves.
That same year, the director of Eurozulu Safaris, a prestigious safari company in St Lucia spotted me and asked me to join his team, which allowed me to my skills as a professional safari guide.
Mastering my Profession
In 2016, I moved to Mask expeditions, who specialize in overland adventure, cycling, walking, and hiking tours to work as a guide. This role allowed me to expand my geographical knowledge and become an expert in Southern Africa. I had the pleasure of leading tours across South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, and Lesotho.
As part of this role, I represented some of the world's well-known travel companies such as Exodus Adventure Travel and KE adventure travel from the UK and Hassler from Germany.
Forging my Own Path
Having gained invaluable experience leading tour groups across Southern Africa, in 2017, I started my own company, Africa Tour Safaris.
African Tour Safaris helps me realise a lifelong dream and creating not just a permanent job for myself, but also other young people from my community.
If you book with us, I promise to give you the African adventure of your dreams!
